Market view

What we see in Provo

Utah County is one of the better places we track to sell HVAC and electrical work. HVAC ranks #4 of 100 markets on larger buyer sites per contractor, with 16.7 sites for each of 35 HVAC contractors, and electrical ranks #7. Meta announced an expansion of its Eagle Mountain data center campus in September 2026, with new buildings using closed-loop liquid cooling, which means large electrical, mechanical and cooling packages.

The market turns over fast. In the latest Census count 2,210 establishments opened, an opening rate of 15.2%, against 1,698 closings, and private establishments rose 15.7% from 2021 to 2025. New businesses mean new facilities decisions, so a call list here needs refreshing every quarter.

Medical offices rose by 76 in one year, the largest gain of any buyer category here. Intermountain Health's Saratoga Springs clinic and cancer center is scheduled to open in fall 2026 and needs medical-grade cleaning and tightly controlled HVAC from day one. Campus work fills in the rest: BYU's Wymount Terrace redevelopment runs through 2028 with HVAC, electrical, flooring and painting in each building, Utah Valley University's new engineering building opened in January 2026 and needs service agreements, and Provo City School District plans to bid a new Timpanogos Elementary in December 2026.

Fire protection and landscaping are crowded, at #91 of 96 and #85 of 100.

The rates are Abstrakt sales center, Performance Intelligence, national, October 2026, across all programs, not Provo results; the scenarios use the slower and faster quarter of buyer industries. Read the transcript of Ava's Provo walkthrough

Hi, I'm Ava.

Here's what an Abstrakt program looks like in Provo.

First, we size your territory.

The Provo area has about 15 thousand companies and 67 thousand business contacts.

Next, we pick the playbook for your industry.

Each playbook starts with criteria that have already booked meetings.

For roofing, that's roof size, roof age and who owns the building.

Then we build the list.

Anyone who isn't a fit comes off before a rep ever sees the name.

Every prospect gets a full profile.

The decision-maker, the building, and every touch so far.

Before the first dial, each rep practices in an AI role play and gets certified.

Now the calls start.

The dialer, the talk track and the follow-up all live in one place.

Every meeting is reviewed for quality before it reaches you.

And we track each one all the way to closed.

We take one client per trade per territory.

Once a spot is taken, it's gone.

Check if your trade is still open in Provo.

Contractor licensing in Utah

Utah DOPL licenses contractors by classification, including general classifications (E100, B100, H100, E200) and specialty classifications (S-codes). Building improvement work under $7,000 in labor and materials is exempt, but electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire sprinkler and alarm work still requires the appropriate licensee.

Outsourced sales development in Provo, answered

Does Abstrakt provide B2B lead generation and appointment setting in Provo?

Yes. Abstrakt runs outsourced lead generation and B2B appointment setting across the Provo-Orem-Lehi, UT metro from its St. Louis sales floor: U.S.-based reps prospect the buildings, qualify the opportunity and book meetings with the person who signs. We take one client per trade per territory.

How does B2B appointment setting work for a Provo program?

It starts with the list. Of the 1,454 sites in Provo-Orem with 20 or more people on site, we keep the ones that buy your trade inside your service area, then a certified rep works them by phone, email, LinkedIn and direct mail. Meetings are booked with the decision-maker, reviewed before they reach you and tracked to a proposal and a close.

Which commercial trades have the most room to grow in Provo?

Measured by larger buyer sites per contractor across the markets we track (a market is ranked for a trade only where it has at least 10 local contractors), commercial HVAC & mechanical (#4 of 100), commercial electrical (#7 of 100) and commercial cleaning & janitorial (#42 of 100) rank best in Provo.

What kinds of businesses are concentrated in Provo?

Compared with the national mix, Provo-Orem has more apartment and residential property managers (1.34x) and private k-12 schools (1.21x). Those industries are the best-represented buyers for trades that serve them.

Is the Provo business market growing?

Yes, on both counts below. Private business establishments across Provo-Orem's counties went from 19,848 in 2021 to 22,959 in 2025 (+15.7%), and private employment +9.6% (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, annual averages). In the latest Census count, 2,210 establishments opened and 1,698 closed in the metro (U.S. Census Bureau, Business Dynamics Statistics, 2023, March to March), so openings ran ahead of closings by 512.

How much federal construction money is spent in Provo?

Federal contract obligations with a place of performance in Provo-Orem's counties came to $31.0 million in federal fiscal year 2026 (October 2025 to September 2026), $6.2 million of it in construction (NAICS 23) (USAspending.gov (U.S. Department of the Treasury), retrieved 2026-10-15). Fiscal 2026 will still rise as delayed defense contract actions post.

When does Provo's new Timpanogos Elementary go out to bid?

December 2026, with groundbreaking in early 2027. Provo City School District plans the new school on the Dixon Middle School site and will repurpose the current building for district programs. That puts general, mechanical and electrical packages for a new school on the street within months, with the old building's conversion adding renovation work. HVAC and electrical firms have room in Utah County, ranked #4 and #7 of 100 markets.

What does Meta's Eagle Mountain expansion mean for Utah County trades?

Meta announced the expansion of its Eagle Mountain data center campus in September 2026, with new buildings using closed-loop liquid cooling and a large construction workforce expected at peak. That means large electrical, mechanical and cooling packages, and the campus needs ongoing facility services once the new buildings run. Electrical and HVAC have room here, so local firms in those trades start from a better position than in most markets we track.

Which counties make up the Provo market?

The metro covers 2 counties. Utah County holds 98% of the larger business sites, so most programs start there.

What does outsourced sales development cost in Provo?

Starting at $5,000 per month for an Outbound BDR program, as a flat monthly program. The price depends on how many reps work your program, the channels, and how large a territory and how many trades it covers. For comparison, one in-house SDR costs about $124,700 in year one at a $55,000 base salary on our illustrative model, before ramp time.
