Business development that opens new markets.

Growth comes from new accounts, new markets, and new relationships. We build the outbound motion that opens them, putting your team in front of decision-makers you could not reach alone.

The Basics

What is B2B Business Development?

Business development is the work of creating new growth, opening new markets, building relationships with target accounts, and generating qualified opportunities that did not exist before. It is broader than closing deals; it is about building the pipeline of future revenue. Abstrakt powers your business development with research, targeting, and multi-channel outreach that gets your team in front of the decision-makers who shape your next stage of growth.

BD vs Sales

What is the difference between business development and sales?

Business development decides where the next revenue will come from and opens the door: a new territory, a new vertical, a new type of customer or a partner. Sales works opportunities once they exist and closes them. In small and mid-size companies the same person often does both, which is why new markets open slowly. Abstrakt runs the door-opening half and your team keeps the close, the same split described on outsourced sales.

Starting pointA market, segment or account list with no relationship yetA qualified buyer with a need
Time horizonQuarters to yearsWeeks to months per deal
OutputRelationships, qualified meetings, entry into new accountsProposals, contracts and revenue

Outsourced business development takes the opening work off your team: research, first contact, qualification and the follow-up that a new relationship needs. Your leadership keeps the strategy, meaning which markets and which services, and your closers keep the deals. If what you need is steady pipeline in a market you already serve, lead generation or appointment setting is the closer match.

New Territories and Verticals

How do you open a new territory or vertical?

Treat it as a research problem first and a calling problem second. Before anyone dials, you need to know which accounts exist there, who buys your service inside them and what would make them switch from whoever they use now.

  • A new territory. A new metro changes the account list, the travel radius and the competition, but usually not who the buyer is. Our market guides cover commercial prospecting city by city, for example Dallas, with local business data for territory planning.
  • A new vertical. Selling into a new industry changes the buyer, the vocabulary and the triggers. A roofer moving from property managers into manufacturing plants is talking to a different person about different risks. Our trade guides break buyers down by trade, such as commercial roofing and fire protection, and our B2B guides cover verticals such as manufacturing.
  • Service radius and density. A territory is only worth opening if your crews can service it profitably. Define it by drive time and how tightly accounts cluster, not by a city name.
  • Proof that travels. Buyers in a new market have never heard of you. Lead with work they will recognize: a similar building type, a similar customer or a similar problem solved.

Harring Fire Protection used outbound to move beyond new-construction work and into property management, building pipeline that did not depend on referral timing or permits. The result was 195 appointments, 16 closed deals and $200K in new business.

Account-Based

What does account-based business development look like?

It starts with a named list, not a territory. You choose the accounts worth winning, map everyone involved in the decision and work them as a group over months.

  • Choose fewer, better accounts. A named list of high-value logos, each researched: locations, current providers where they can be found and recent changes.
  • Map the buying group. On a multi-site account that can mean a regional facilities director, site managers, procurement and an executive sponsor. Deals with one contact stall when that person leaves.
  • Enter where you have a reason. A site with an aging system, a new location or a contract coming due. Win one site, then expand across the portfolio.
  • Coordinate the touches. Phone, email, LinkedIn and direct mail aimed at different people in the same account, all telling one story.

Enterprise programs put a team of 2 to 6 specialists on this kind of work. See enterprise sales development for how named-account programs are built, and account-based sales development for how a named-account program runs step by step.

Partnerships vs Direct

Should you grow through partnerships or direct prospecting?

Use both, for different jobs. Partnerships borrow someone else's relationships and arrive warm, but on the partner's timeline. Direct prospecting starts cold but runs on yours. If referrals and partners are your only source, growth stops when they do.

Partnerships and referralsDirect prospecting
WarmthHigh; the introduction carries trustCold at first, earned over the sequence
Who controls volumeThe partnerYou
PredictabilityUnevenScheduled, measurable activity
Reach into new marketsLimited to where partners already workAny account you can identify

For trades, the usual partners are general contractors, property management firms and complementary trades. They are worth cultivating, but they are a poor engine for a new market where you have no network yet. TruSeal America had a strong closing team with a pipeline that ran entirely on referrals; adding direct outbound produced $344K closed in 15 months. Century Facility Services broke its referral ceiling the same way.

The two work best on the same list. Ask partners for introductions to accounts you are already prospecting, so a warm introduction lands on an account your SDR has been working.

New-Market Launch

How does Abstrakt run a new-market launch?

The same way we run every program, with more research at the front. We define the market and the buyer, build the account list, open conversations by phone with email and LinkedIn around them, and qualify every meeting before it reaches you.

01

Define the target market

A custom ICP for the new territory or vertical: which companies, which sites, which roles, and which accounts are out.

02

Build the account list

A target account list (1,500 accounts on Foundation) with decision-makers identified, backed by Abstrakt Intelligence.

03

Open conversations

A U.S.-based SDR team runs phone-led outreach with email and LinkedIn. Growth adds cold direct mail and intent and trigger data.

04

Qualify and hand off

Every meeting clears Right Company, Right Contact and Right Timing before it lands on your calendar.

05

Nurture and review

Not-now accounts are nurtured, for up to 18 months on Growth. Activity is visible 24/7 in the Results Portal, with monthly reviews on Foundation or bi-weekly reviews and quarterly strategy on Growth.

We take one client per trade per territory and will not run the same program for a direct competitor in your territory, which matters most when you are the new entrant. A design-build GC looking for new commercial work in Texas and Oklahoma landed a $900K project by month three.

Questions, Answered

Business Development Services FAQ

What is business development?+

Business development is creating new growth: opening new markets, building relationships with target accounts and generating qualified opportunities that did not exist before. It builds the pipeline of future revenue.

How is business development different from sales?+

Business development finds and opens opportunities; sales closes them. Abstrakt works the development side and puts qualified meetings in front of your closers.

What is outsourced business development?+

A sales development team that works as an extension of yours, under your name, handles the research, first contact, qualification and follow-up that open new accounts and markets. Your team keeps strategy and closing. At Abstrakt that work is done by U.S.-based SDRs.

Can you help us enter a new market?+

Yes. We build the target list and outreach for the new market and qualify every meeting.

How quickly can a new market produce results?+

The first stretch goes into the ICP, account list and messaging. After that it depends on your sales cycle: one design-build GC landed a $900K project in month three, while long-cycle accounts can take a year or more of nurture.

Do you help with account-based business development?+

Yes. For named-account growth we map the buying group at each account and run coordinated outreach to the people who own the budget and the need. Enterprise programs use a team of 2 to 6 specialists.

Do you set up partnerships for us?+

Our programs are built around direct prospecting. When partner types such as general contractors or property management firms fit your ICP, we can include them in outreach.

Will you work with my competitors in a new market?+

Not in your territory. We take one client per trade per territory and will not run the same program for a direct competitor in your market.
