Abstrakt is eager to work with Almost Home for our 2nd annual Abstrakt Gives Back Day! Almost Home offers services to young mothers and expecting mothers who are in need of housing in many different ways. Almost Home isn’t a shelter, but rather it’s a proven pathway out of poverty. There are three different programs, Foundations to Success, Creating Employment Opportunities, and Alumni Support Program to assist in these young women who are facing different obstacles. These programs are designed for highly-motivated women ready to work for a brighter future for themselves and their children.
Foundations to Success is for 16-20 year old single pregnant or parenting young women who are in need of housing and are either still in school or not currently attending school. FTS offers transitional housing, a safe, nurturing environment for the mother and child, and assistance with basic needs such as food, clothing, diapers, and baby supplies. This program also offers case management and counseling, tutoring and academic support, as well as life skills classes for the women to learn the skills needed to succeed.
The CEO program (Creating Employment Opportunities) is for 18-28 year old single mothers living in the community who are high school graduates or who have their GED. These women are either unemployed or in need of a higher paying job and in need of housing support. Almost Home offers these women a 1-year intensive training program, access to transitional housing or low-income apartments, job training and placement, individualized coaching and support. The women in this program will also receive hands-on skills training, personal and professional development, childcare stipends and transportation vouchers as well as a life skills class.
Almost Home recognizes that change doesn’t happen overnight which lead to the ASP program (Alumni Support Program). This program is meant for graduates of the Almost Home CEO program or former clients of the Almost Home FTS transitional housing program. Participants of the program are offered up to 8 years of support, access to low-rent housing, job referrals, and career advisement as well as childcare assistance and stipends, home visits and follow-ups, and coaching, support groups, and therapy.
If you are as excited as we are about all the work Almost Home is doing for the young women of our community, get involved! There are so many opportunities to volunteer and donate to this wonderful organization!
