Finding an internship is much more difficult than it looks. You have to spend long hours just compiling a list of possible internships. Then you have to polish up your résumé and cover letter to make sure you stand out from the crowd. (I did not realize how frustrating cover letters could be!) So when I applied to be a social media intern for Abstrakt Marketing Group this spring, you could say I was happy (and relieved) that I did not have to worry about a cover letter. Of course, I had to focus on not making a fool of myself during the interview, but luckily I was able to do that (somewhat) easily.
I was ecstatic, to say the least, when I found out that I got the internship here. I even did the happy dance in my living room! The scary part was over and I just had to get through my first day without tripping or running into anything (I’m a clumsy person). When it came time for my first day, I was definitely nervous. I was trying to take in all the information I was given while remembering everyone’s names. However, I didn’t have a reason to be nervous. Everyone has been really nice, making for a good first day. I also did not have a clumsy moment (which is a plus for me). The warm and friendly atmosphere here can make any intern feel welcomed here.
Those long hours of practicing what I would say during my interview and practicing on not tripping over my own two feet paid off! I get to have my own cubicle, which I think is pretty cool, and I get to work in an environment that’s more like a family than an office.
How great is that? All in all, I’m glad things worked out and look forward to learning about Abstrakt and agency life!
