If you were anything like me, yesterday consisted of two things: the Super Bowl and Super Bowl commercials. The game was interesting enough, but what really had me on edge was awaiting the breaks in the game for what I was sure to be a fun filled evening of hilarious advertisements. There’s just something about the anticipation of a Super Bowl commercial that draws in viewers. I will have to say, however, this year left something to be desired in the comedy department.
Sure M&M’s “Just My Shell” and the Chevrolet “Happy Grad” commercials got a few laughs, but this year it seemed that many brands dropped the ball on being particularly funny.
As far as the warm your heart commercials, home run or touchdown! Budweiser not only came out with some great “goose bump” commercials go (as I like to call them), but they completely dominated the airspace. From Bud Light Platinum to Bud Light to Budweiser, the Anheuser-Busch InBev brands were everywhere. The commercials cost a pretty penny ($3.5 million for a 30-second spot to be exact), but we can easily understand the investment when brands such as Budweiser and Chevrolet “do it right” and place themselves top of mind for months to come.
If you missed any of the Super Bowl commercial action yesterday, catch up here.
