Writing: Oh where shall we begin? Whether you are writing for a client or on behalf of your company, finding your “voice” is often something many writers struggle with. Readers know what they like, what they don’t like and it’s impossible to please them all. However, once you’ve discovered your “voice”, you will notice that many of your followers enjoy reading your articles just because they are written by you; this can become a major asset for your company. If you invest in the following steps, you will be well on your way to finding your “voice” as a writer and developing a strong following.
Know your audience. Your audience should be your number one focus when you write. Additionally, the demographic of your audience should greatly influence the tone and style of your writing. If your marketing company writes blogs that is stuffed with industry terms and dry content, don’t plan on many views from the general public. Remember: write about things that people want to read about, can understand and will enjoy.
Have a purpose. Don’t just write to write. If you have a desire to be original and find your “voice”, you must start with a purpose. If your company, industry or cause is something that you are highly passionate about, people will see it through your writing. When you write with a purpose, others respond.
Be unique. When you set out to compose for a particular format—whether it be a blog, a script or print copy—it’s important to note your delivery. What your composition conveys should resonate with your audience. Being unique gives it the little push it needs to stand out.
It’s hard to find your “voice” in a world of billions, but with enough effort it will come. Let your “voice” lead your company to success.
